Do I need to winterize my pool in the Vancouver/Surrey area?
in Outdoor LivingWinterizing your pool is an important part of maintaining the health of your equipment and water. While it might be tempting just to leave it, you’ll be adding more costly headaches come spring. Taking steps to care for your pool through the winter months will save you time and money when reopening.
Over the fall and winter we get a lot of rain and a lot of fallen leaves. Both of these can mess with the ph level of your water when they accumulate in your pool. Low ph means the water is more acidic and will damage pool surfaces and equipment with corrosion and etching. It will also make chlorine less effective which increases the likelihood of murky water caused by algae and bacterial growth.
To ensure your water is balanced for the winter, get it tested near the end of fall. If you bring us a water sample, we can test it for free. We’ll then be able to recommend Bioguard water care products for your specific situation and walk you through their application.
Winterization products include:
- Hibernate Premium Antifreeze: antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor to protect plumbing and equipment.
- Hiber Shock: oxidizes and clarifies through the off season. Restores water clarity.
- Hibernate Stain & Scale Inhibitor: Controls scale formation on surfaces, piping and equipment. Prevents stains caused by iron, copper and manganese.
- Hibernate Algicide II: Prevents algae growth over winter
Winterizing is the easiest thing you can do to make your spring pool opening as smooth as possible. Give us a call if you have any questions. We’re here to help!
