Vancouver International Bird Festival Celebrates Bird Migration
in InformationalInspired by World Migratory Bird Day, a festival is being held annually in Vancouver to celebrate the city’s bird population. For 2018, the festival was held from August 19 to 26 in conjunction with the International Ornithological Congress.
The Vancouver International Bird Festival features a series of events all week long in celebration of Vancouver’s bird populations. Inspired by the United Nations-sponsored initiative World Migratory Bird Day, this week-long Vancouver event recognizes the importance of Vancouver’s birds and their importance to our environment.
The festival includes bird-centric workshops, walks, talks, cultural events, exhibitions, lectures, and a parade throughout the week. First started in 2013, the festival will be back next year to celebrate Vancouver’s birds, and will hopefully be able to continue year after year.
2018’s festival featured both a public event to celebrate, and a congress of scientific professionals who came together to support conservation efforts. The objective of the annual Vancouver International Bird Festival is to partner with community groups to celebrate birds and nature, and to engage the public through a love of nature and birds.
Keep your eyes peeled for dates and events for the 2019 Vancouver International Bird Festival.
