Preparing Your Garden for Halloween

Preparing Your Garden for Halloween.jpg

For many of us, Halloween is a fun time of the year. There are parties, candy, and children in spectacular costumes. Your garden can also get dressed up for Halloween. In today’s blog we would like to give you some hints on how to prepare your garden for Halloween either early or late.

Early

If you want your garden to grow lots of crops reminiscent of Halloween, then you would have to start earlier than now. Make a note for next year. You can grow pumpkins, or 100 different kinds of other squash, gourds, and even ornamental corn that has kernels in jewel colors. These are crops that typically will be ready in October, so when Halloween comes, you can leave them in the ground or harvest and decorate your house and deck with them.

Late

If you are late to the party and still want to add some Halloween fun to your garden, you can still decorate the garden. Feel free to add some zombie scarecrows to your beds, or some bewitching fairy lights (some are battery operated) around your stakes or over your tunnels. Where crops are finished, dig a hole roughly the size of a grave, and have a skeleton half sticking out or some odd bones, plastic or otherwise.

Add some wooden crosses at the ends of rows of plantings. Visitors will not know what to make of your décor! Lean an old-fashioned twig broom against a stack of pumpkins. Even if you have not grown pumpkins this year, neighbourhood farms surely have. Buy a bunch and decorate your house inside and out. Pumpkins are sturdy and will be fine outside as long as it does not freeze at night.

You could also add all these delightful decorations to your deck or patio, while you admire your garden from afar. We have lots of Halloween inspired products and inspiration at our flagship store in Surrey if you would like to stop by and take a look. We would love to see you.
