Is there a higher risk of contracting Covid associated with pools, hot tubs or spas?
in Outdoor Living
There’s nothing like sitting back and relaxing in the warmth of your jacuzzi, spa or hot tub. Feel the soothing water reducing stress and easing muscle tension. It’s your chance to escape the pandemic and forget about everything for a while. But is there a higher risk of contracting coronavirus associated with pools, hot tubs or spas?
You can rest easy (soak easy?) knowing there are no known reports of Covid-19 spreading to people through the water in jacuzzis, spas, hot tubs or swimming pools. Coronavirus cannot live in water that is properly cared for. As long as your maintenance includes disinfecting with chlorine or bromine there’s no chance the virus will survive in the water.
The main way the virus spreads is from an infected person to a healthy person, through respiratory droplets. So it’s still important to stay at least 6 feet apart. Wear masks only if they won’t get wet. Wet masks don’t slow the spread as well and can be difficult to breathe in. Check the CDC website if you’d like more information.
