Difference Between a Jacuzzi, a Hot Tub, and a Spa

There are few things more enjoyable than enjoying a soak in hot water on a cool fall evening. If you have been considering investing in a hot tub, you may be confused about the differences between jacuzzis, hot tubs and spas. People often use these terms interchangeable, but there are some specific differences with each term.

Hot Tub

Perhaps the most commonly mentioned term, a hot tub is essentially a large tub that is filled with hot water. People often refer to spas or Jacuzzis as hot tubs, but both of those have other defining characteristics. A hot tub is your basic tub, usually made of wood, full of hot water.

Spa

When we refer to a spa, we are talking about a hot tub that has been upgraded to include jets. A jet is a device that mixes water and air together, and blasts it out. These can be quite relaxing, and provide enjoyable massages for those sitting by them. Spas are often above ground, but can also be built into a deck, or combined with a swimming pool.

Jacuzzi

Jacuzzi is probably the term that causes the most confusion, with many people wondering how a Jacuzzi is different than a spa. Simply, Jacuzzi is a brand name, just like Ford or Toshiba. Jacuzzi is a brand name manufacturer of high quality, long lasting and durable spas. Every Jacuzzi is a hot tub or spa, but not every hot tub or spa is a Jacuzzi.

This should help to clear up the confusion around each of these similar, yet different, terms. Now that you know what the differences are, you can make an informed decision about which one is right for you.
