Choosing a cover for your hot tub Jacuzzi

in Outdoor Living

Jacuzzi hot tub cover.jpeg

Covering your Jacuzzi when you are not using it provides a lot of benefits. It helps to maintain heat and slow water evaporation, reducing your heating costs. It keeps water clear by preventing dirt, debris and leaves from getting in. And it provides a layer of safety by limiting access to pets and kids. In fact, having a cover for your hot tub is an essential part of owning a Jacuzzi!

You can find cheap covers around, however they are likely to be flimsy, less energy efficient and they won’t be durable. Having to replace a cover often is an ongoing hassle on top of it not doing the things you need it to do effectively. To help you choose a good cover for your Jacuzzi, we’ve compiled some tips so you’ll know what to look for.

What to look for in a hot tub cover

Marine-grade vinyl material. This is a durable material that is made to withstand the sun’s UV rays, high temperatures, rain, sleet and snow. It comes in various thicknesses with thicker being heavier.

High-density foam core. Foam provides insulation meaning the denser and thicker the foam, the more heat your tub will conserve and the less you’ll spend on electricity. Aim for a density of 1 to 2 lbs.

Angled. Look for a cover that is slighter higher at one end. This allows snow-melt or rain to run off the side instead of pooling in the middle.

Custom-fit. The cover has to fit properly to maximize energy efficiency and gain all the other benefits listed above. So look for one that can be custom-fit to your Jacuzzi.

Cover lift. A cover lift takes the strain and hassle out of adding or removing your hot tub cover. Easy to install, it helps secure it in place for added safety and protection.
